Illinois governor signs bills giving state power over health insurance prices, Affordable Care Act exchange

Illinois will soon run its own Affordable Care Act health insurance marketplace, and have the power to stop sky-high price increases of plans sold on it.

Gov. JB Pritzker signed a pair of bills Tuesday aimed at giving Illinois more control over health insurance prices and the Affordable Care Act marketplace, also known as the Obamacare exchange, where people can buy individual and family health insurance plans.

The bill signings Tuesday came amid criticism aimed at Pritzker for his decision to close enrollment for many people in a separate health care program for immigrants in the country without legal permission.

Clostridioides difficile (C. diff), a bacterium that can potentially cause diarrhea and colitis, commonly colonizes people who are hospitalized. New research suggests that even if these individuals never had symptoms and were never diagnosed with C. diff during their hospital stay, they could still bring the bacterium home and expose family members.
